Nice.

Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV win by the New Orleans Saints over the favored Indianapolis Colts is not only the feel-good story of the year, according to The Nielsen Company it is also the most-watched program in the history of American television. The 1983 M*A*S*H finale was the record holder, until Drew Brees lit it up in Miami and inspired a nation with his heroics on the grid iron. (Okay maybe that was a bit over-the-top but the dude GOT IT DONE for the city of New Orleans.)

If 106.5 million people watched the Super Bowl and 166 million pounds of snacks were eaten and 49.2 million cases of beer were consumed, then…

The Nielsen Company estimates 106.5 million people watched the Saints kick some ass; while the M*A*S*H record was 105.97 million. Oh and last year's Super Bowl record has been officially blown out of the water; a mere 98.7 million people watched Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner go at it.

In a Feb. 1 2010 Nielsen news release, 9 out of 10 U.S. households said they were planning on watching Super Bowl XLIV at home or at a friend's or relative's house instead of watching it from a restaurant or bar.

We drank more beer at Halloween than during the Super Bowl? That's scary.

Despite all the cool beer commercials and all the beer-drinking contests at parties and bars during Super Bowl Sunday it is not even close to being the biggest beer day. More beer is consumed on the Fourth of July (63.5 million cases for the 2-week period), then Memorial Day, then Labor Day, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then Halloween (odd), THEN the Super Bowl (49.2 million cases). It's shocking, really. We should do something about that for next year. ;)

We ate 166 million pounds of crap food? Really (burp)?

Nearly 166 million pounds of snacks are consumed on average during the Super Bowl.  The most popular snack of choice are potato chips — 44 million pounds of potato chips!!  Tortilla chips and pretzels were next in line.

The diet starts tomorrow. Tonight I'm thinking more beer and chips. (Leftovers, right? Can't just throw that shit away.)

College Basketball Betting Lines & Odds: Kansas at Texas http://beat.bodoglife.com/sports/college-basketball-betting-lines-odds-kansas-at-texas-39180.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/sports/college-basketball-betting-lines-odds-kansas-at-texas-39180.html#comments Mon, 08 Feb 2010 21:51:35 +0000 BigpoppaThaShowstoppa http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=31544 With just one loss in 23 games this season the Kansas Jayhawks will be looking to stay on a roll on Monday night when they take on the Texas Longhorns.

College basketball bettors will continue to be wary of the Jayhawks, however, as they’re just 9-10-1 against-the-spread this season. Kansas didn’t cover in a 75-64 win over Nebraska on Saturday.

The Longhorns haven’t fared any better on the wagering lines – they’re sitting at 9-10 against-the-spread heading into Monday night. Texas is 6-5 ATS at home; they lost their last home game 80-77 to Baylor back on January 30.

Totals bettors won’t get any clear trends for this contest – Kansas is 8-11 on the OVER/UNDER this season, while Texas is 11-7. The Jayhawks’ win over the Cornhuskers on Saturday was an OVER result; that total was set at 133 points.

Texas will be looking to make a statement on Monday – with four losses in the past six games they’re starting to hurt their seeding for the NCAA Tournament.

Lentenor Eager to Win the Kentucky Derby for Big Brother Barbaro http://beat.bodoglife.com/horseracing/lentenor-eager-to-win-the-kentucky-derby-for-big-brother-barbaro-41022.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/horseracing/lentenor-eager-to-win-the-kentucky-derby-for-big-brother-barbaro-41022.html#comments Mon, 08 Feb 2010 21:44:36 +0000 Maria Starr http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=31523 Horse racing fans may soon have another Barbaro to cheer for this season as Barbaro's full brother, Lentenor, is starting to show similar signs of greatness. With jockey John Velazquez's help, Lentenor put in an impressive effort to win a maiden race on Jan. 20 at Gulfstream Park and is eligible to run in this year's Kentucky Derby.

Michael Matz is Lentenour's trainer and it is by no coincidence that he was also Barbaro's trainer; so if Matz is thinking that Lentenor could have a shot at the 2010 Kentucky Derby, then maybe we'd better keep an eye on this horse.

"I do think he is good enough," Matz said earlier this week at Gulfstream Park. "I don't want to do too much with him now because I don't want to be out of horse if we do get to one of the classic races. We'll see with his next race. He'll tell us from race to race where he's going to go."

The plan right now is to run Lentenor in the next allowance race scheduled for Feb. 17 at Gulfstream. If Lentenor wins that then Matz said he'd run him in the Florida Derby, a Kentucky Derby prep race that big brother Barbaro also won en route to his Kentucky Derby win.

Lentenor's Jan. 20 win was his third race; he finished third in his first race, and then second in his second race. His progression has been steady, which is good, but all three races thus far have been on grass. And as we all know, the Kentucky Derby is run on a dirt track at Churchill Downs. The Florida Derby, however, is run on a dirt track, making it the perfect prep race for Lentenor's Run for the Roses. At any rate, Matz is confident that Lentenor will continue to improve, slowly but surely.

"That's what we're hoping for, that he'll keep improving as he has done," Matz said. "He got into a little trouble in his first two races, and he had a clear trip in his third race. He came out of the race terrific and I think he'll get a lot out of that race."

Lentenor is the third offspring of the sire Dynaformer and the dam La Ville Rouge to have made the leap onto the American thoroughbred horse racing scene.

NFL Betting: Super Bowl XLV Futures http://beat.bodoglife.com/sports/nfl-betting-super-bowl-xlv-futures-93827.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/sports/nfl-betting-super-bowl-xlv-futures-93827.html#comments Mon, 08 Feb 2010 20:19:42 +0000 Allen James http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=31516 peyton-manning

Football season has been over for less than 24 hours (as of this writing), but if you are like me, you already are missing it. Well, don’t worry because Bodog is well aware that football is a 365-day-a-year sport when it comes to betting – and thus it already has released odds to win Super Bowl XLV next February at Cowboys Stadium just outside Dallas.

Peyton Manning came up short in trying to win his second ring on Sunday night, but his Colts have opened as the Bodog favorites for next year at 13/2. The Chargers, who were shocked by the Jets in the AFC divisional round this season, are No. 2 at 8/1. It’s hard to believe the Patriots haven’t won the big game since XXXIX in 2005, but they are the third-favorites in the AFC at 10/1.

The Saints have opened at 10/1 to be the favorite among NFC teams; they were 20/1 to win it all this season when the odds were released last February. Green Bay, Dallas and Minnesota all are right behind New Orleans at 12/1 for next season. No team has ever played in the Super Bowl in its home stadium, which the Cowboys obviously will be gunning for. Arizona is a 35/1 long shot no doubt because of the retirement of Kurt Warner. The Vikings’ odds are guaranteed to get longer if Brett Favre finally retires for good.

This will be a very unique offseason in the NFL because of the likelihood that it’s an uncapped year when it comes to the salary cap. This will go into place if there is no agreement for a new collective bargaining agreement by early in March. So while there could be an unprecedented amount of movement, it’s not going to be a total free-for-all. Players who have been in the NFL for four full seasons usually would become unrestricted free agents, but that will go to six years in an uncapped system.

In addition, the NFL’s top eight teams (Arizona, Dallas, Minnesota, New Orleans, Baltimore, Indianapolis, N.Y. Jets, San Diego) will be limited to how much they can spend. And the four teams that advanced to the conference championship games (Vikings, Saints, Colts, Jets) are limited in the number of free agents that they may sign; the limit is determined by the number of their own free agents signing with other clubs. They cannot sign any unrestricted free agents unless one of theirs is signed by another team.

Super Bowl XLV will be the third time the Super Bowl has visited Texas, with the previous two coming in Houston (1974, 2004).

Don’t delay, bet on NFL futures at Bodog today!

Single-Zero or Double-Zero Roulette: Which Do You Prefer? http://beat.bodoglife.com/casino/single-zero-or-double-zero-roulette-which-do-you-prefer-20346.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/casino/single-zero-or-double-zero-roulette-which-do-you-prefer-20346.html#comments Mon, 08 Feb 2010 18:19:24 +0000 Maria Starr http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=31498 It's a little like the 'chicken and the egg' story; Single Zero Roulette and Double Zero Roulette, which came first? Which one is better? And more importantly, which one do you prefer to play?

Double Zero Roulette was the first to appear on the scene, but for obvious reasons (known to roulette players) Single Zero Roulette is preferred because the house edge is lower. Oddly enough, while most casinos in Vegas have been offering Double Zero Roulette, there's been a shift to bring in Single Zero Roulette as a way of attracting more players to the game.

And it's working. Read more on Single-Zero Roulette vs. Double Zero Roulette strategy at Bodog Casino.

Getting Over Your Super Bowl Hangover http://beat.bodoglife.com/entertainment/getting-over-your-super-bowl-hangover-39537.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/entertainment/getting-over-your-super-bowl-hangover-39537.html#comments Mon, 08 Feb 2010 18:14:43 +0000 Elizabeth Fairview http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=31491
The Super Bowl is a time for celebration, overindulgence and well, downright partying. If you got your party on yesterday and feel like shit pie this morning, you're not the only one. In fact, many of you may have mustered up the strength to crawl to the edge of you bed to reach for your phone on your nightstand – because there is no way on this bloody green earth that you're going in to work today. No freaking way. It's okay though. Enjoy your day (if you can). You know what? Your work expected it so don't feel guilty. Most businesses are familiar with employees calling in sick Monday morning with a mix of the “Brown Bottle Flu,” brought on as a result of an extensive Super Bowl par-tay time. A 2008 survey determined that an estimated 1.5 million employed U.S. adults call in sick to work the day after the Super Bowl. The survey also revealed that another three percent of respondents, or an estimated 4.4 million employees, may arrive late to work the Monday after the Super Bowl. If you actually made it in to work today, congratulations. If you're among the ranks of the 1.5 million who called in sick, here are a few ways for you to spend your day, once you've puked up yesterday's buffalo wings.

  • Order pizza: greasy foods are good for hangovers and if you order pizza, you don't have to go out in broad daylight (hiss) to hunt and gather for your meal.
  • Go to the video store: If you can make it outside, a day in bed with some sort of movie (Paranormal Activity was pretty good) can get your mind off your pounding headache. Although not yet out on DVD, you could buy The Hangover. It's worth every penny.
  • Ginger ale and saltines: If you're the barfy type, you may not be able to stomach much today. Just go with the bland stuff and watch some Ellen.
  • Play some online poker: You can really stop thinking about your hangover if you've just pushed all-in with the nuts.
  • Stay in bed: Nothing cures a hangover more than a dark room and some Advil. If none of the above tips help, this is the only road to true hangover recovery.

That's all I got, folks. Other than avoiding bright lights and annoying people, I'm all wiped out of tips.

NFL Football Futures: Super Early Predictions http://beat.bodoglife.com/sports/nfl-football-futures-super-early-predictions-97855.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/sports/nfl-football-futures-super-early-predictions-97855.html#comments Mon, 08 Feb 2010 17:24:45 +0000 BigpoppaThaShowstoppa http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=31487 Did you find yourself bored during the Super Bowl pregame show on Sunday? Or maybe during the pre-pregame show? Or perhaps during the pre-pre-pregame show?

Well, you could have passed the time researching the odds for the 2011 Super Bowl – Bodog already has them listed for you.

Even before the outcome of Sunday’s matchup was decided the Colts and Saints were getting some of the shortest odds to win next year’s big game – Indianapolis with the favorite treatment at 13/2, and New Orleans right behind them at 10/1.

Tom Brady and his Patriots, bounced early in the playoffs this year, are also seeing 10/1 odds to get back to the top of the mountain next season. The Vikings are pegged at 12/1, but of course those odds will move around as Brett Favre waffles on his retirement plans yet again.

The Chargers (8/1) and Steelers (11/1) have short odds to win next year’s Super Bowl as well right now, along with the Packers (12/1) and the Cowboys (12/1).

And if you started indulging a little too early on Sunday you might’ve be tempted to grab one of the mega-longshots at 100/1 – the Bills, Browns, Lions, Chiefs, Raiders, Rams, and Buccaneers.

They didn’t need them.

The Saints put up 25 second-half points on Sunday to grab a 31-17 win over the Colts. New Orleans sat at +160 on the moneyline, while the game’s total produced an UNDER result (57.5).

As for the props, the coin toss turned up heads (-105), while the Colts scored the first points of the game (-135) on a Matt Stover field goal.

Drew Brees had more touchdown passes than Peyton Manning (two vs. one), which paid off at +140. Brees’ passing yards (288) fell UNDER his posted total of 300.5. Manning’s passing yards (333) went OVER that same posted number.

Brees paid off at 43/20 as the game’s MVP. And if you took the +700 odds on there being overtime, you lost that cash. The ‘no’ side on that prop was listed at -1400.
