The armed robbery took place in broad daylight, with the suspects making off with around €100,000 and €300,000. According to German police, the four men remain at large and it is believed they were after the tournament's €3.68 million prize pool.

In a statement made by the EPT, it appears nobody was seriously injured with most events restarting within a few hours and just one $1,000 side event cancelled. Police are currently investigating the incident and have asked the media to hand in any video footage or photographs that could help with the case.

A total of 945 players from 48 countries entered the €5,300 main event, including German tennis legend Boris Becker. In the end, Kevin MacPhee from Finland won the €1 million first prize.

Annie Duke Wins NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship http://beat.bodoglife.com/poker/annie-duke-wins-nbc-national-heads-up-poker-championship-52486.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/poker/annie-duke-wins-nbc-national-heads-up-poker-championship-52486.html#comments Mon, 08 Mar 2010 16:42:45 +0000 Elizabeth Fairview http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=32651 Annie Duke has become better known for her appearance on The Apprentice than her performance at the poker tables. It seems like when cameras are rolling Duke consistently brings her "A" game though as she won the 2010 NBC Heads-up Poker Championship last Sunday.

To get to the final match Duke had to beat Andy Bloch, Darvin Moon, Paul Wasicka, Jerry Yang and finally Dennis Phillips.

In the final round of the 64-player field, Duke took on eight-time WSOP bracelet winner Eric Seidel. Seidel also had his own tough path to carve as he defeated Huck Seed, Chris Moneymaker, Peter Eastgate, Scotty Nguyen and Bodog's own David Williams.

Williams won his first round against last year's WSOP Main Event champion, Joe Cada, before facing Seidel in the second round.

The final showdown between Duke and Seidel will make for great television. Duke scored the win for round one when she took down two huge pots through a straight and a flush before sinking the win with A-K against a flush draw that never came through for Seidel. Keeping things interesting, Seidel went on to win the second round thanks mostly due to scoring a huge pot after flopping trips. Seidel finished round 2 with 8-7 against Duke's K-5.

The final round proved as exciting as you could hope for when Seidel held a 3-1 chip lead only to have Duke come back with a vengeance. Duke put the brakes on her slide when she pushed all-in with Q-9 while Seidel held A-K. Duke caught two pair and made the crucial double up and get a slight chip lead. A short-stacked Seidel ended up shoving with A-2 soon after and Duke called with pocket nines. With no ace hitting the board Duke took down the 2010 NBC Heads-up Poker Championship and the $500,000 that went with it.

The NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship bracket has just been set with a field of 64. We can look forward to a showdown between Jason Mercier and Daniel Negreanu in the opening round, as both poker pros have been really hot lately. Also, another familiar face will include 2007 World Series of Poker Europe champion the 21-year-old Annette Obrestad and High Stakes Poker’s new host Kara Scott. Other matchups include Phil Hellmuth vs. Howard Lederer, Erick Seidel vs. Huck Seed (the defending champ), as well as Barry Greenstein vs. Vanessa Rousso.

Cada will be making his heads-up debut after winning the World Series of Poker main event in November. Known for playing aggressive poker, Williams is also know for sporting interesting threads including a diamond-studded toothpick that usually gets him razzed by fellow players.

Here’s a list of the best known players selected from the 64 competitors in the NBC's Heads-Up Poker Championship:

Patrik Antonius, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Don Cheadle, Allen Cunningham, Annie Duke, Tom Dwan, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Jamie Gold, Phil Gordon, Barry Greenstein, Joe Hachem, Gus Hansen, Jennifer Harman, Orel Hershiser, Jesper Hougaard, John Juanda, Gabe Kaplan, Phil Laak, Howard Lederer, Erick Lindgren, Mike Matusow, Dario Minieri, Chris Moneymaker, Daniel Negreanu, Scotty Nguyen, Annette Obrestad, Dennis Phillips, Greg Raymer, Kara Scott, Erik Seidel, Mike Sexton, Gavin Smith, Jennifer Tilly, and of course David Williams.

2010 Oklahoma State Championships of Poker Update http://beat.bodoglife.com/poker/2010-oklahoma-state-championships-of-poker-update-45322.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/poker/2010-oklahoma-state-championships-of-poker-update-45322.html#comments Wed, 03 Mar 2010 22:12:12 +0000 BigpoppaThaShowstoppa http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=32519 The 2010 Oklahoma State Championships of Poker began at the Hard Rock Casino Resort in Tulsa in early February, and preliminary results are in for some events. So far local players have dominated the final tables, and most of the cash from the prize pools has stayed right at home in Oklahoma. Turnout at the tournament has been good enough to ensure the event will be back for its sixth year in 2011.

The Oklahoma State Championships of Poker offer a wide array of poker variants to play. Grinders from just about every type of tournament structure were able to find some action that they like. Buy-in amounts were small for most of the action, but the $3K Main Event had a big enough prize pool to attract lots of the state's best players. Find out more about the event in last Friday’s Bodog poker article: 2010 Oklahoma State Championships Of Poker

Bodog Pro David Williams to Play in NBC Heads Up Poker Championships http://beat.bodoglife.com/poker/bodog-pro-david-williams-to-play-in-nbc-heads-up-poker-championships-97233.html http://beat.bodoglife.com/poker/bodog-pro-david-williams-to-play-in-nbc-heads-up-poker-championships-97233.html#comments Sat, 27 Feb 2010 19:34:20 +0000 Maria Starr http://beat.bodoglife.com/?p=32348 David Williams 2009 WSOP Limit Holdem Shootout

It seems like ages since we last heard from Bodog Pro David Williams, so we at the Beat thought it was high time we checked in with the 'cool as a cucumber' dude from Las Vegas.

"I had a few cashes in the WSOP although I didn't play as many as I normally do. For the previous four years I've played around 33 events, this year I played 12 and cashed in two, with one final table. Not great but not bad at all. I also made a deep run in the NBC Heads Up Poker Championships and finished in fifth, with this being my first time cashing in the event. I really worked on my heads up game and was excited for the event."

Williams tells us that he's getting set to return to the NBC Heads Up Poker Championships, where he hopes to improve on last year's finish. "As soon as that's over it's off to San Jose for the WPT Shooting Stars event at the Bay 101," Williams added. "Then when I come back to Vegas the $5000 buy-in Wynn Poker Classic Main event starts the following Monday."

Taken from the new article, "Catching Up with Bodog Pro David Williams."

Much like college basketball's NCAA Tournament, the National Heads-Up Poker Championship starts off with a bracket of 64 of the game's best No Limit Texas Hold'em poker players going head-to-head for $1.5 million in combined prize money.

This year's tournament features poker pros Chris Ferguson, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Joe Cada and last year's Heads-Up finalists Vanessa Rousso and Huckleberry Seed.

"It takes a lot of skill and mental toughness to get through a field of such exceptional players," last year's Heads-Up champion Huck Seed was quoted as saying in a Feb. 16 press release. "But I look forward to defending my title and trying to win it again."

Unlike the NCAA Basketball Tournament, however, the National Heads-Up Poker Championship finals is a best-of-three format, with the first-place finisher receiving $500,000 and the second-place finisher taking home $250,000.

The single-elimination competition begins Friday, March 5 at noon and continues through Sunday, March 7.
